As the summer weather appears to be here to stay (touch wood!), more and more of us are spending time outside. It's great to see kids and adults enjoying themselves playing sport and leading active lifestyles.
Popularity of Trampolines Increases
In his
Guardian article, Stuart Jeffries looks at the reasons for the increase in demand for trampolines. John Lewis reported a 55% increase in sales for 2008.
As a
specialist personal injury lawyer, it's no surprise that I want to discuss the dangers of trampolining! The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (
RoSPA) reports there are currently 11,500 hospital admissions a year from trampoline accidents.
Trampoline Accidents Increase
While 80% of trampolining accidents occur when two or more people are on a trampoline simultaneously, supervision in school and sports clubs is key to the prevention of accidents.
One of my recent clients, 14 yr old Miss M of Oldham, had a rather nasty accident during a trampoline lesson. The instruction from her coach was "1, 2, 3, bounce", but the tutor threw the client too hard and she sustained a fractured elbow and forearm.
So while trampolines are a great way to keep fit and can be a lot of fun, they do pose risks to limbs! If you've had a similar injury, don't hesitate to
contact us and have your claim assessed by a solicitor free of charge.
